Intraocular pressure control after combined manual small incison cataract surgery augmented with mitomycin-c
Irfan Ullah, Zakir Hussain, Sanaullah Jan, Yousaf Jamal Mahsood, Saima Farooq, Muhammad Zia-ud-Din Khalil
This study evaluated the results of combined trabeculectomy and MSICS with MMC in cases of glaucoma with cataract. The mean age of the patients in this study was 61.7 + 8.7 years. The mean baseline IOP was 27.5mmHg + 3.5 and the mean postoperative IOP was 17.3mmHg+ 5.3 with a mean change of 10.7mmHg + 6.3. Combined Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery with mitomycin C can be a useful treatment option for patients with glaucoma and age related cataract.
Causes of neovascular glaucoma and its final outcome in glaucoma clinic
Yousaf Jamal Mahsood, Saima Jabeen, Mahmood Ali, Irfan Ullah, Saima Farooq, Farah Akhtar
Forty seven eyes of 47 patients were included. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy was the most common cause of NVG with frequency of 44.7% followed by central retinal vein occlusion (31.9%), retinal detachment (14.9. There was significant reduction in IOP (p < 0.001) after treatment with mean pre-treatment IOP of 39.72 + 12.44 to post-treatment final IOP of 18.30 + 8.43 mm of Hg.
Drug utilization study of eye drops at tertiary care eye hospital
Muhammad Sadiq, Saima Jabeen, Zamurrad Shaheen
The aim of this study was to evaluate the utilization of eye drops based on data obtained from IT department at tertiary care teaching eye hospital. Results showed that total 1060137 eye drops were utilized during 33 months. Amongst them Anti-infective were utilized in highest number, 299211 eye drops (average 9067/month), followed by Steroids in combination with Antibacterial, 203005 (average 6151.7/month), then Antiglaucoma and Miotics 149211 (average 4521.5/month).
Endothelial cell loss after penetrating keratoplasty
Adnan Aslam Saleem, Danish Gani, Ahsan Ahmad Zia, Wajid Ali Khan
The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of endothelial cell loss in donor cornea following penetrating keratoplasty. 79 patients, aged ≥15 to ≤70 years from both genders were evaluated. Among the participants at 3 months post operatively, endothelial cell loss was 29.79% in the age group of 15-25yrs, 28.84% between 26-35years, 28.40% between 36-45 years, 27.73% between 46-55years and 33.07% between 56-70 years of age.
Refractive changes after scleral buckling surgery in patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment
Isra Batool, Abdullah Naeem Syed, Haleema Masud
This study was aimed to determine refractive changes in patients who underwent scleral buckling surgery attending the retina clinics of Al- Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi. Refractive changes including myopic and hypermetropic shift was observed in patients due to increase in corneal curvatures and axial lengthening or shortening after surgery. The intra-ocular pressure also increased in most of the patients.
Safety profile of prophylactic intracameral moxifloxacin in cataract surgery
Irfan Aslam Khattak, Adnan Aslam Saleem, Amer Shahzad
In this case control study, 490 patients (equally divided into two groups) were treated with intracameral moxifloxacin (250 micrograms/0.050 ml) or an equal volume of balanced salt solution at the conclusion of cataract surgery. Safety parameters, including endothelial cell counts and corneal pachymetry, were evaluated preoperatively and 1 week postoperatively. No significant difference (p-value = 0.089) was seen in the decrease in endothelial cell count (ECC) between the two groups. Similarly no significant difference (p-value > 0.094) in central corneal thickness (CCT) was found between the two groups.
Effects of silicone oil removal
Furqan Ahmed Khan, Aziz Jan Bashir, Adnan Aslam Saleem
The records of 86 patients who had undergone silicone oil removal were studied with a follow up period of fifteen months after silicone oil removal. 16 eyes (43.2%) developed retinal re-detachment among those cases without scleral buckling and 5 eyes (10.2%) in those with scleral buckles.
Improved automated detection of glaucoma from fundus image using hybrid features
Anum Abdul Salam, M.Usman Akram, Shfaat A. Bazaz, Syed Muhammad Anwar,Kamran Wazir, Imran Basit
Proposed paper provides a novel, autonomous and more accurate glaucoma detection algorithm that processes a fundus image using some state of art biomedical imaging and machine learning techniques, then correlate their results to categorize an image as glaucoma, non-glaucoma or suspect.
